Between the Mad Dashes
Written by Danielle Downey

Between moments to cook as I perform a jig for a hungry temper-bathe-do chores-hum tunes 4 sleepy lids-think of supper-imagine my cv seeing daylight-assure motherinlaw I’m capable as baby eats crumbs off the floor-wonder about my hair as hubby arrives, Evelyn stares in my eyes-secure in love. All goals I had made more important than parenthood become empty yet wanting. Empty because in the small creature so intent on me I feel fulfilled in my destiny. Wanting as my goals could give her the best of me. In this moment, I remember Dr. Vaillant’s study- happiness is love. Motherhood is happiness.
